The first seven months of 2026 were among the biggest periods of change for Facebook in recent years. Meta focused on four major areas such as AI-powered experiences, better video recommendations, creator tools and more personalized feeds and search.
AI Became the Core of Facebook
AI-powered Feed Improvements
In January 2026, Meta announced that AI would become the primary technology powering Facebook. Instead of simply showing posts from friends and Pages you follow, Facebook’s AI now became significantly better at recommending content it believes you will enjoy.
According to Meta:
- Organic Feed views increased by 7%
- Video watch time grew by double digits in the United States
- Facebook began recommending 25% more same-day Reels, making content fresher.
I noticed:
- More suggested posts
- More recommended creators
- More videos
- Less chronological content
- Faster discovery of trending topics
AI Search (AI Mode)
One of the biggest changes arrived in June 2026. Facebook introduced AI Mode inside search. Instead of typing keywords and scrolling through thousands of posts, users can now ask questions in natural language.
For example: Instead of searching: “best laptop for students”
Users can ask: What laptops do students recommend under $800?
Facebook AI searches across
- Public posts
- Groups
- Reels
- Community discussions
Then generates an AI summary. This is similar to ChatGPT, Google AI Overview and Perplexity AI. The goal is helping users find answers faster without manually opening dozens of posts.
AI Creative Tools
Meta also added several AI editing features for creators.
AI Outfit Changes
Users can virtually change clothes, hairstyles and accessories inside profile pictures or Stories.
AI Photo Restyling
Facebook can automatically transform photos using AI styles such as sports jerseys, artistic looks, themed edits and AI Collages. They added photo collages, cut-out templates, animated montages, transition effects making it easier to create Stories and posts.
Better Video Recommendations
Video remained Facebook’s biggest priority. Meta’s recommendation system now recommends newer Reels faster, identifies trending videos sooner, prioritizes original creators. Instead of waiting several days for content to spread, Facebook surfaces many more same-day videos.
Stronger Focus on Original Content
Meta aims to reward original creators. Their AI now detects original uploads, duplicate uploads and recycled videos. Original content receives stronger distribution than copied material. This policy began earlier but remained a major focus in 2026.
New Creator Publishing Tools
Meta introduced new publishing tools for creators including Content Planner. Now creators can schedule posts, plan publishing calendars, organize campaigns, collaborate with teams, and Bulk Reels Upload. Creators can now upload many Reels simultaneously with batch descriptions, copyright checking and faster publishing workflow. It could benefit businesses and creators publishing multiple short videos.
More Personalized Feed Using Activity from Other Websites
In June 2026 Meta announced an important personalization change. Previously your activity on other websites (shared via Meta Pixel and similar integrations) was mainly used for advertising. Now Meta also uses that data to personalize Facebook Feed, Reels recommendations, and Meta AI responses.
So if you recently purchased camping gear on another website, Facebook may recommend camping videos, outdoor Groups, and hiking Reels. Meta stated it is not collecting new categories of data, but expanding how existing business-shared data is used. Users can manage this through the “Activity from other businesses” privacy setting.
Better Ad Ranking
Meta improved its AI advertising models. According to Meta Facebook ad clicks increased by 3.5% and ad quality improved by 12%. Although primarily benefiting advertisers, users may see ads that are more relevant to their interests.
Improved AI Translation
Facebook expanded AI-powered dubbing and translation. Videos can now be automatically translated into more languages, making international content easier to understand and increasing the reach of creators.
Business Messaging Improvements
Meta enhanced interactions between businesses and customers.
- improved click-to-message ads
- smarter Business AI
- more automated conversations
- better WhatsApp integration for businesses
These updates make customer support and sales conversations more seamless across Meta’s ecosystem.
Website Changes
Facebook’s web version received updates that largely mirrored the mobile app.
- AI-powered search
- AI creative tools
- improved Reels recommendations
- faster feed loading
- updated video surfaces
- refreshed content recommendations
The focus remained on AI and video rather than a complete visual redesign. Some AI features and interface updates rolled out gradually by region, so not every user received them immediately.
